The Issue In March 2010, the Indonesian government acknowledged that only 35% of the total population was connected to pipe water network (Ministry of Public Works), leaving millions of people without access to safe water supply. Furthermore, according to experts the water losses (NRW) rate is exceeding 50%.
Today, the water sector cannot cope with the increasing demand and Indonesia is facing a serious water management crisis.
This situation restricts the country’s ability to improve livelihoods of the communities, reduce health risks as well as to achieve poverty alleviation.

Our Response
Air Kita Foundation has been set up to solve deeply-rooted inequities of the society to ensure equal access to water. Our organization was founded to scale up a 3-year capacity building program initiated in 2004 and financed by the European Union. It was designed to assist several water utilities (PDAMs) improving their performance.
Exceptional results were achieved leading to a visible and sustainable transformation of these water utilities into successful water providers.
